The practical version

One installation

A licence covers one active Lunar Paper installation.

People, not features

Free allows up to three people. Paid tiers increase that limit and include the same features.

Your data stays yours

The licence covers the software. It does not give Lunar Paper ownership of your data.

1. Licence grant

Ben Martinson grants you a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to install and run Lunar Paper for your own personal use or your organisation’s internal work, subject to these terms. The licence continues for as long as you comply with these terms and, for a paid tier, keep the relevant subscription current.

The Free tier permits up to three active accounts. A paid tier permits up to the number of active accounts stated for that tier when you purchase it. Deactivated accounts and people who only view published material do not count toward that limit.

You may keep backup copies that are reasonably necessary to protect or restore your installation. A backup may not be run as a second production installation. You may run a replacement temporarily while moving the licensed installation to new infrastructure.

2. What the licence does not allow

You may not:

  • copy, modify or create derivative works of the software, including its source or object (compiled) code, except as expressly permitted by these terms;
  • redistribute, sell, sublicense or make Lunar Paper available as a hosted service for somebody else;
  • run more active installations or accounts than your licence permits;
  • bypass, disable or interfere with licence controls;
  • remove copyright, trade mark or other ownership notices; or
  • reverse engineer the software except where applicable law gives you a right that cannot be excluded.

These restrictions do not prevent copies needed for the installation and backups permitted by section 1, use of supported configuration and customisation features, or editing supplied deployment configuration for your permitted installation. They do not restrict rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or rights granted under a third-party component’s own licence. Other copying, modification or redistribution requires Ben Martinson’s prior written permission.

3. Ownership and your data

Ben Martinson owns Lunar Paper’s source code, object (compiled) code, design, documentation and branding, except for third-party components and materials, which remain the property of their respective owners and are subject to their own licences. All rights in Lunar Paper not expressly granted are reserved.

This licence grants permission to use the software; it does not transfer ownership or grant rights to the Lunar Paper name or branding. Access to source code, a public repository or a container image does not make Lunar Paper open source or grant additional rights to copy, modify, redistribute or sublicense it.

You retain ownership of the data and content you put into Lunar Paper. You are responsible for that content, for the people you allow to use the installation, and for maintaining suitable backups and security for your infrastructure.

4. Paid licences and cancellation

Paid licences are sold by Dodo Payments as merchant of record. The price, billing period, taxes, renewal and payment details shown at checkout form part of the purchase. Dodo’sBuyer Terms also apply to the transaction.

If a paid licence ends, Lunar Paper continues to run and your data remains on your infrastructure. The installation returns to the Free tier limit of three active accounts until another paid licence is activated.

5. Beta software and updates

Version 0.8.0 is beta software under active development. Features, interfaces and data formats may change between releases, and a release may contain defects. Read the release notes before updating and keep tested backups of your database and uploaded files.

Updates are licensed under the terms supplied with that update. You are not required to install an update, although older versions may stop receiving fixes or security updates.

6. Warranty and liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lunar Paper is provided “as is” and without a promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. Ben Martinson is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost revenue or lost data arising from use of the software.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including any applicable rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

7. Ending the licence

The licence ends if you materially breach these terms and do not fix the breach after being asked to do so. When it ends, you must stop running the software and remove copies in your control. Your data remains in the database and storage that you control.
